In a thread called Cable Properties, Rob had responded with

1) Using "Symbol_xxxxxxxxx" Attribute in the Document
"Symbol_" attributes are added to every cable, dogleg and symbol that is added to the document.
a) Display the Document Properties sheet (doubleclick anywhere on the document, or rightclick and select Properties) and go to the Attributes tab.
b) Create a new Attribute with the prefix "Symbol_", e.g. "Symbol_StartConnector" and click on OK
c) Draw a Cable or Dogleg - you will see that it now includes an Attribute called "StartConnector"

You could add this attribute to the Document template (found in the Templates directory under the main Stardraw program installation directory) to cause the same effect in every document based on that template.

I have tried #1, the new attributes show up while drawing and the results are visible in the reports section of the drawing. I do not see the results when using tools/ reports.

#2, The attribute do not show up in the drawing.

I am also trying to get a connector list.

Thanks, Bill

If you have added a new attribute e.g. StartConnector, you will need to modify a report template so that it can pick up on the attribute name and extract its value from the drawing.  In the Excel report template you would do this by naming a cell (select Insert | Name | Define) and, in this case, you could name the cell Summary_StartConnector.  Follow the link below for more info on customizing reports:

Can you explain further your point #2? - I'm missing something.  To what does this relate?

Thanks

Rob

Sorry, I thought I saw a '2' before

You could add this attribute to the Document template (found in the Templates directory under the main Stardraw program installation directory) to cause the same effect in every document based on that template.

I added the attribute in Stardraw per the older post and modified the Connection Schedule template per the new post.

I still do not get values returned. The name cell is blank, also.

Is there something I'm missing?

Thanks,Bill

Hi Bill,

Can you email the Stardraw drawing and the Excel template to techsupport@stardraw.com?  We'll check them out and see what the problem is.

Thanks

Rob

OK, the problem was that you had not created named ranges in the Excel template to suck out the required attributes.  A title in the column is not enough; you need to use the Name Box or select Insert | Name | Define to name the cell or range of cells.  In the attached, you'll see that cell C3 is named "Detail_StartConnector" - this tells the cell to get the StartConnector attribute value for each object that is being reported on.  Similarly cell K3 is named "Detail_EndConnector", and the range "Detail_Data", which defines the entirety of the area into which attribute values will be inserted, has been extended to A3:K4 to include the EndConnector column.

Rob,

I see the difference and am working on understanding Excel.

If I modify and save the Block Schematic.s01, will my attributes be available all the time?

If I modify the Connection Schedule template, should I also modify the Cable Schedule and the Cable + Connection schedule?

Thanks,

Bill

Hi Bill,

Yes - named ranges are one of those things: not commonly exploited, but very, very useful nevertheless.

In answer to your questions (and if I get your meaning right), yes; if you have modified the "Block Schematic.S01" file that is your template to include the new default attributes, then whenever you start a new document based on that template, every symbol and every Cable/Dogleg added to that document will get the default attributes you have added.

Whether you should customize all the cable reports is entirely up to you - that's one of the nice things about the system; you can modify it as much or as little as you want.  It comes down to what, exactly, is the problem you want to solve.

Let me know what your ultimate goal is and I'll be very happy to work with you to get the best possible results.

All the best

Rob
