Slow Zooming due to grid refresh rate

Stardraw can appear to lock-up when you use the Snap to Intersection modifier in drawings containing a large number of objects.  Is Snap to Intersection on, and does unchecking it resolve the problem?

Stardraw in fact is not locking up, but it's working hard and if you take your hands of the mouse and keyboard it will complete the operations it's working on. To explain: when you're moving, editing or drawing an object, the Snap to Intersection modifier, if active, calculates the possible intersection of every object in the drawing with every other object every time you move the mouse. The number of calculations is a factorial function so in a small drawing this causes no problems, but in a drawing with a lot of objects – for instance when you have multiple high-detail symbols – it can take your computer a long time to calculate the results, and every time you move the mouse Stardraw AV has to re-start the calculation.

Snap to Intersection should only be used if you really need to identify intersections between lines that cannot be snapped to using another modifier, e.g. Snap to Grid or Snap to Object. Thus only turn Snap to Intersection on if you need to snap to a) a point where 2 lines cross that b) isn't on the grid (or a grid sub-division determined by your grid settings) and c) isn't the endpoint or midpoint of a line. In most structured drawings the points that you draw to are on the grid or are endpoints of existing lines, so you rarely, if ever, need to use Snap to Intersection when working with drawings containing symbols.

Instead of using Snap to Intersection, use Snap to Grid or Snap to Object and all will be well.

Kind regards,

I've just been using cntl+g to turn the grid on and off, which works fine.

But, now the program is running extremely slow when trying to edit some rack drawing symbols, to where the program will freeze up for 1 minute just to draw a rectangle!

Need toget this graphics issue figured out as I am wasting to much time dealing with this.

Thanks

Did you overwrite your existing stardraw.exe, which is usually installed in c:\Program Files\Stardraw.com Ltd\Stardraw AV 2007 ?

I just unzipped that folder and ran the application, which was all that was in it. All this did was launch stardraw, there wasn't an installer in the folder. I am running version 15 Dec 2008

I presume that you are running the latest version of Stardraw AV 2007 on your machine.

To verify, can you download, unzip and overwrite your existing stardraw.exe, which is usually installed in c:\Program Files\Stardraw.com Ltd\Stardrraw AV 2007 with:

http://www.stardraw.com/downloads/development/stardrawavvista.zip

Please let us know if this changes the performance of drawing the grid on your machine.

Yes I have aero enabled with effects on, is this correct? Should I use a different scheme or update a driver?

THanks

It's in the dialog window before this one.

You should see a Color scheme of Windows Aero.
