I am working on a project that I have to finalize and get printed today, June 11, 2009. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I need to export multiple drawings as DWG files to import into AutoCAD. When I "File/Save As" I select AutoCAD 2005 DWG from the drop down menu. When the "Define DWG/DXF Units" pop-up appears I select the box "Export Visible Layers Only." Unfortunately once I import the file into AutoCAD I still see the rear and side views stacked on top of the front view. How can I eliminate this problem without having to manually delete all of the information I do not want out of AutoCAD? I only need to see the front view, and without any extra labels or information.

Thanks for the help,

Brandon

Hi Brandon,

We have been unable to reproduce the issue you describe.  If Export Visible Layers Only is checked, the DWG file that is created contains only the visible layers.  Feel free zip up your drawing and post it to this forum - we can check it out.

However, I'm just trying to understand what you're trying to do. It doesn't sound like you actually want to work with the file in AutoCAD, so what is the problem you're trying to solve by going through DWG?

e.g. Do you want someone that does not have Stardraw to print the file?  If so, they could use the free viewer available at http://www.stardraw.com/products/OrderViewer.asp

If you can explain the problem you're trying to solve, rather than what you're trying to do, we should be able to suggest the best solution.

Kind regards,
Rob Robinson

Hi Brandon,

I also want to add to Robs reply that you can also use a ordinary PDF Printer (like pdfCreator) to create a PDF file. Because Stardraw will print vectors of course, that PDF will be zoomable without any loss of quality as well. So you're customer wouldn't even need to install an extra Software.

Best Regards

Martin

Thank you for the suggestions thus far. I am downloading PDFCreator and will try using that to create a file that can be imported into AutoCAD. The reason I need these drawings in AutoCAD is because they are going onto architectural drawings.

To be more clear about my exact circumstance... The drawing I am trying to export and import into AutoCAD is a rack drawing showing multiple custom rack panels and equipment.

Thanks,

Brandon

Hi Brandon,

OK, if you need to work with the drawings in AutoCAD then DWG is the best (and only) way to go.

We need to understand why Export Visible Layers Only is not working for you.  Can you confirm that you are using the latest version of Stardraw?

Can you post the drawing, or email it to techsupport@stardraw.com if you're uncomfortable with it being in the public domain?

Thanks.

Kind regards,

I have had a similar experience with this matter.  The way I solved it was to perform an "audit" and then a "purge" prior to importing any StarDraw DWG files.

It is best practice to do this before any Stardraw file is imported.

Please feel free to contact me should you have any questions and ro concerns.
