Hi,

We're wondering what Stardraw determine are data and control ports on devices so when we make our own blocks we match the standard?

IE, USB, Ethernet, RS232 etc etc

Hi Harrison,
Thank you for your post.
Block Schematic symbols conform to the following standard for physical ports on a device:
Audio signals - Audio Circuit Paths
Video signals - Video Circuit Paths
Power signals - Power Circuit Paths
Data/Control, including all transport protocols such as: TCP, USB, Dante, RS-232, etc., etc. - Control Circuit Paths.

You may find the video on our movies page titled #09 Adding New Products, useful as it covers the use of the User Defined Product wizard, a very handy tool for creating UDPs.

I hope this helps.
Kind regards
Kevin Harrison

Thanks Kevin

What do you class as a data signal? As this isn't shown on the video and is the one we're unclear on

Hi Harrison,

As stated in my last post: Data/Control, including all transport protocols such as: TCP, USB, Dante, RS-232, etc., etc. are all placed on 'Control Circuit Paths' layer.

Please let me know if there's something I've missed or if I've misunderstood your question.
Kind regards
Kevin Harrison

Hi Kevin

When we add a block schematic symbol there are 7 options for ports. Data and Control are separate options

Both layers also exist as default

Just wanting to be clear

Thank you

Thanks, Harrison.

In the UPD wizard, you have the option to specify additional ports, these are: Lighting, Data, and User.  You may use these additional layers in your UDPs as you wish.  However, all published symbols, the symbols that we author in-house, and that are published to the libraries in SD7, conform to the layers specified in my previous post.  In other words, the symbols we provide do not contain any ports on the Lighting, Data, and User layers.

I'm sorry for the confusion.
