Hi,

I'm creating a drawing at the moment, and when I run a cable schedule report, various cables are missing. I believe that all the missing ones terminate onto products that have been formed into a group (Arrange, Group) eg where I've added a piece of text to label the functionality of a device and grouped it with the device, that device no longer appears on the export. If I ungroup it, it then does appear.

Is this design behaviour?

Thanks

Philip

Hi Philip,

Yes. If you want to add something to a symbol, rather than making the change in the document we recommend that you create a User Defined Product (e.g. rightclick on the 'base' product in the Product Browser and choose Create User Defined Product from Product) then rightclick on the UDP and choose Edit Symbols.

In the Symbol Editor you can add or change whatever you want, and the UDP will behave with integrity when inserted into a drawing.

I hope this is helpful.

Kind regards,

Hi Rob,

That means I end up with lots of very similar, and only one off used, symbols - eg Panasonic ABC123 Left, Panasonic ABC123 Right

I've also grouped items together as I have eg a catV receiver which will sit with a projector, so they want to stay together. Unfortunately the cables from those then don't appear on the list.

Hi Philip,

With regard to text labels that are 'project specific', in your UDP you could add a placeholder for the label, e.g. XXXX, then when the UDP is inserted into a drawing use the Unlock cursor to edit the text to set the value that you want. After having made the UDP this is no more difficult, and in fact probably easier and more accurate, than creating a new text object in the drawing, positioning it in the right place, and then Grouping it to the symbol.

Regarding your second point, understood. We'll take a look at how grouping affects the cable schedule functionality, but I cannot promise a change to behaviour anytime soon.

Kind regards,

We are pleased to announce that an update, published today, resolves the issue in which Cables that are attached to symbols that are grouped were being omitted from Cable Schedules. For full details see http://forums.stardraw.com/Topic11006.aspx
