I am a system integrator trying to decide on our company's choice of automation control systems. We have used Girder/NetRemote for the last year and have decided to look for alternatives.
Our core competency is residential system integration. Typical jobs include distributed audio/ HD-video, a dedicated theater, and lighting and HVAC systems. Our goto vendors are Denon, Russound, HAI, Dell (PPCs), Samsung (TVs and UMPCs), and AudioAuthority.
Our jobs always include at least one dedicated server to handle automation and media distribution (music, pictures, videos). Wireless clients include the Dell x51 PPC or the Samsung Q1. For large projects, will will dedicate one server for automation and add a second server for media content.
I have briefly played around with the StarDraw software and like the object-oriented interface. What we hope to find is a ROBUST automation-based software system that we can quickly understand and begin creating IR and RS232 drivers for, as well as a generic GUI for the client devices. As noted above, we have used Girder for the last year, but find our needs require more than forum-based support. We are prepared to budget up to $2,000.00/ client for a software solution that is extremely robust and can provide personel support to help us scale quickly.
I have found the DIY-based systems are OK, but what companies like mine that resell the software as part of an integrated solution?
Any feedback is greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Rob
