Hi all,

I have been pulling my hair out with this for a while, i have feathers coming FROM a network switch and TO various pieces of hardware.
I have made it a standard that cables ALWAYS go FROM a switch, and have connected the TO feather using the same feather type, the same cable type on the same layer, with the same feather ID and still they appear on the cable schedule as two separate unconnected cables.

What am i missing???

Hi Keith,

I assume you are using Stardraw Design 7.4, please let me know if it's an earlier version that you're using as the following information will not apply.

Are you talking about the Cable Schedule, generated using File | Export | Cable Schedule?

Or are you talking about the Cables View?  If so, be aware that the Cables View is a view on the Cable objects in your project, allowing you to manage the Attributes of those Cables and see the objects they connect To and From.  This view also allows you to jump to the Cable and Symbol(s) it connects in whichever drawing they appear.

Because it is a view on the Cable objects themselves (not a physical cable) it is by design that 2 Cable segments, in 2 different places (possibly in different drawings) are represented in the Cables View on 2 rows; each Cable segment connects to 2 things - in your case a product symbol at one end and a feather symbol at the other - and you can jump to the Cable or connected symbol, wherever they are.  Hence a row for each Cable object, and 2 rows for 2 Cable objects, even if they are connected to a feather pair with matching IDs.

The Cable Schedule, by contrast, outputs a consolidated list in which Cable objects attached to a feather pair appear in a single row, representing a single physical cable.

I hope this makes sense and helps to clarify what you're seeing, but please let me know if my assumptions are incorrect.

Kind regards,
Rob Robinson
