+xHi all. I'm new to Stardraw, so this may be an easy answer for you guys. I've submitted a request for a new symbol and was pleasantly surprised at the quick publication and notification of that symbol. However, the symbol is fleshed out in the block schematic view, but only a rudimentary rectangle exists in the rack layout view. I also noticed that some of the pre-existing symbols of products that have been out for quite some time are also just very basic rectangles in the rack layout view. This makes for an inconsistent appearance in the rack elevations of some products being very high detail and others being overly simplistic. That being said, is there any track record of updates to the rack layout symbols that are basic rectangles being further refined to high detail versions? (examples referred to in this post // new symbol = Shure PA411 // older pre-existing symbol = Crown XTI2 series amps)
Hi Brent,
Thank you for your post and for choosing Stardraw Design 7.3.
In order for us to publish manufacturer-specific Rack and Pictorial symbols, we need to obtain CAD drawings from the manufacturer of the products concerned. Most of the time this data is readily available but in some cases, it is not. The manufacturer can be slow to respond to our requests, or he may not have the data available, and all of this can affect the time it takes for us to publish symbols for products that you request.
Historically, in an effort to prevent long lead times for symbols, where product data was not readily available, we would have published generic-based symbols and these consisted of simple outlines with Manufacturer/Model Number text for the Rack and Pictorial libraries. These are in fact what the Crown XTI2 series amplifier symbols were originally based upon.
Since the beginning of 2019 we have improved this process considerably by creating a new library of ‘Categorized Symbols’ so that now, when we receive a product request for a mid-sized projector or a 2 channel amplifier, for example, we have graphically representative drawings which, in the case of rack-mountable products, are also dimensionally accurate. When the Shure PA411 Antenna Combiner symbols were published earlier this week, Categorized Symbols were utilized.

We focus on trying to deliver symbols as quickly as possible for the many hundreds of product requests we receive each month from SD7 users around the World. We continue to try to obtain product information from manufacturers for any symbols published that are generic-based and we encourage Stardraw users, who may already have good relationships with these manufacturers, that they get in touch with them and ask that they support you, by supplying us [Stardraw] with their product information. This approach very often helps speed things along!
We have checked with Crown and unfortunately, there is no further information available to us at this time for the XTI2 series amplifiers. We have however updated the older generic symbols to the new Categorized ones and these have been published today.
I am also pleased to report that we have been able to obtain data for the Shure PA411 and manufacturer-specific symbols have been authored and published today in both the Rack and Pictorial libraries.
In both cases, the new symbols will be available the next time you run SD7 and synchronization completes.
If you need to check the status of any other symbols published or otherwise, please feel free to email us at symbols @ Stardraw.com.
Thanks once again for posting. I hope this is helpful and answers your questions.
Regards
Kevin Harrison
