Rob, I've invested in a 4k Monitor, and my laptop has all the power to run it. I have 2 newbie questions.
Does SD natively support 4K ?
When I run SD on 4K resolution, it is workable, however a lot of the non zoomable parts are to small, and because of the increased resolution I have to move my mouse 4 times the distance to get to the usual menus top, left or right. Do you have any suggestions to maximize the monitor benefits, while not making life so much harder by over extending my reach ? I could lower my resolution of course, or perhaps your Icons have a way of becoming larger. In 4K finding those tiny icons on top get's to be a hit or miss with the mouse frankly. I'm not ranting, just trying to draw an overall picture of my challenges in using SD in a 4K environment. Hope you can give me some ideas for ideal setup based on your extensive experience.

Hi Bear,

All rendering, both of drawings and the workspace (toolbars, buttons etc), is handled by Windows.  This is why there are no 'display' options or settings in Stardraw Design 7.3 itself.

Using Windows' display settings you can keep your 4K resolution but increase the size of things in applications by applying a new setting for Scale and Layout.  The setting you choose will be down to personal preference but in-house, at a resolution of 4500x3000, scaling of 200% suits certain users.

You'll find further information on display settings and text scaling in Windows' documentation.

I hope this is helpful.

Kind regards,

Hi Bear,

One other thing - you mentioned how far you have to move your mouse relative to the on-screen cursor position.  This too can be ameliorated with Windows' settings for mouse behavior; the exact options will vary depending on the mouse driver in use, but something like 'Pointer Speed' will be where you can define how far onscreen the cursor moves, based on a movement of the physical mouse.

Kind regards,

Hi Rob,
Using scaling  in Windows setting make icons, toolbar and menus larger and readable, but all benefits from 4k monitor are lost. Drawing is scaled as well and characters and lines are less readable than in not scaled 4k. Monitor can not display same details.  Some other CAD program has same resolution on drawing regardless scaling in windows. Solution is maybe to have two different setups with  sizes of icons, toolbars and menu for 2k and 4k monitor users.
