I am trying to use the Plan view module to draw room elevations. For example a drawing showing the position of a monitor to be mounted on a wall. So it needs to be drawn to scale and exact dimensions shown.

If I add a monitor product to the plan view, its not to scale and I also cannot amend the dimensions in the Property window. The same applies if I just use a square to represent a monitor. I know you can drag the symbol/product to resize, but to get them exact is laborious and takes far too much time.

Is there a reason the products are not to scale, and why the dimensions in the property window cannot be edited. I know you can unlock the object, but it only applies to individual elements of the object not the whole object and again is laborious and time consuming.

Thanks

Hi Kevin,

T‌he Stardraw libraries contain different symbols to represent products in different drawing Modules.‌  Each Module is designed to produce drawings of different types.

I‌n some Modules, e.g. Block Schematics and Pictorial Schematics, scale / dimensions are simply not a factor - the drawings are not designed to be 'to scale'; it actually wouldn't make sense.

I‌n others, .e.g. Rack Layouts and Panel Layouts, the drawings are meticulously to scale, at 1:1, so that the physical dimensions of such drawings can be used for assembly and construction.

I‌n Plan View, the supplied symbols are designed to represent the location of products in Floorplans and Reflected Ceiling Plans, but not their to-scale dimensions.

T‌here is no Elevation module, so Stardraw Design 7 does not currently have a library of 1:1 scale symbols of products for use in such a view.

Regarding dimensions in the Properties Grid‌: if the selection has Height and Width properties then these can be edited so, for example, the Height of a Rectangle can be changed to whatever value you want.  If Height and Width are not shown then the selection is a multiple or compound selection and its size can be changed using the Arrange | Scale command.

I‌ hope this is helpful.‌

Kind regards,

Thanks Rob, I can see your point regarding scaling in the various modules. I had hoped the plan module could produce scaled drawings which would be of great benefit to us, particularly if products could be dragged to the plan to scale. Other than that for us, the product looks good.

I had been trying to‌ add symbols to a plan drawing from the shapes folder, and it is these that I could not modify the dimensions. However, I now see you can add shapes from the menu bar and the dimensions for these can be modified in the properties window. A call-out symbol with the ability to drag an arrowed line from such to an object for annotation would be useful.

Thanks for your advice.
