Feature request:
‌Would it be possible to import an AutoCAD file with optional external references?
I‌f this is possible it would be nice to also be able to preserve the existing layers of the external reference with the external reference name as prefix of the new layer name.

Hi Gerrit,

C‌urrently external references ‌are not supported when importing from DWG, but we are looking into adding support for this feature.

Today, if you have access to AutoCAD you can use Explode and Purge commands to bring the XREFs into the current DWG file and import that or, if you email the DWG and all associated XREF files to techsupport@stardraw.com, we can do that for you.

Kind regards,

Hi Rob,

T‌hanks for your quick response...

A‌t the ISE last week I spoke to one of your colleagues and he told me that there has been some testing done alreay, but that it wasn't jet implemented in the software. He also told me to write a post in the forum to remind him about this feature request which would be a great feature for us as we commonly get buildingplans from external company's with external references and we don't have an AutoCAD licenses because we use Stardraw Wink. Because of NDA we are not allowed to send those files to external companies...

C‌ould you please ask around with your colleagues?

Gerrit,

I‌t was I that you spoke to at ISE and asked you to post to the forum.

As you said in your post, this is a great way for us to track publicly the progress of any feature requests and to have an open discussion on implementation details.

Y‌ou said that you wanted external referenced files to have their own Layer Names when brought into Stardraw. Is this standard?

‌‌I could see that you could quickly end up with thousands of layers if you had hundreds of external references each with tens of layers in them.

I‌s this an in house standard?‌

Gerrit,

I‌ am pleased to say that we have written the code to allow importing of DWG files containing XREFs‌ and we are in the final stages of testing before we release it.

I‌ understand that some of your files are under NDA but if you can send us whatever you can we can ensure that we fully support at least those files when we release this feature.‌

David,

I‌ am very pleased to hear that you are looking in to this. I will see what files I can send to you on short notice. Because of the file size I might need to send it with WeTranfer or equivalent tool can I address this to the general (support) e-mail address?

G‌errit‌
