Is there a way to draw polygons in plan view, So I could draw an L or T shaped or any other odd shape catwalk for example in a roof space and then shade (fill color it) it.  

If there is not would be handy tool in a future release.

Currently no, there isn't a Polygon tool, but this is on our development wishlist.
