I have the latest updates, using Windows 8.1, still have strange quirks.  Past projects do not show up.  I cannot print after creating a new project  -  there is no error message, just nothing happens at all when try to print.   I've tried restarting program as administrator and it then will not see my network drives (which is where all the projects are).

I've had these strange issues ever since the last 7.1 upgrade.  Sometimes I will eventually get things to work after opening the program several times, but then after several weeks when I need to use it again, these issues crop up again.

Hope the above general information helps to steer me in the right direction.

Hi Bob,

Please confirm that your Windows installation is up to date.  Even if you think it is, perform a Windows Update, accepting all Critical and Important updates.  Repeat until no further Critical/Important updates remain.

Stardraw Design 7.1 does not make its own calls to network drives or printers, but goes via the operating system: If Windows can see the drive, SD7.1 can.  If Windows cannot, SD7.1 cannot.  I suspect you have a network configuration issue at the operating system level.

Please confirm that if Windows Explorer can see the drive, File | Open in SD7.1 can see it, and also the converse; if SD7.1 does not see a drive, then Windows Explorer also cannot see it.  If otherwise, please include screengrabs.

Kind regards,
Rob Robinson

So far so good, all the critical updates were in place but there were some optional ones that I installed, and it seems to be behaving at the moment.  Thanks!

and a day later...... it's back to its same old tricks.  Cannot print, when try to print absolutely nothing happens  -  no window, no error, nothing.

So I restarted and "run as administrator" and now it does not find my network drives (although I can switch right over to windows explorer and all network drives are there just as they always were).  Still no printing.

Restarted again not as administrator, network drives are there now but still no print function.

Hi Bob,

I think that running with different privileges may be confusing things - if you do the same thing (run the application normally) you should always see the same thing, and if you don't we need to figure out why.  Adding extra variables (like Run As Administrator) can lead to red herrings.
  • Did the computer sleep / hibernate / shut down & restart?
  • Did you close/restart SD7.1 or was it running continuously?
  • Was the dongle light on?
I want first to understand the 'not printing' issue, by itself.  If you encounter this again, use Help | About Stardraw to force a recheck for the dongle then retry printing.  Does this procedure solve the printing issue?

Kind regards,

Tried it today, same printing problem.  Just opened Stardraw, first time in several weeks, to work on a drawing. So no shutdown, no hibernation or anything like that.
Dongle is lit
the Help | About stardraw looks fine, shows the dongle number, shows Build 3/12/2015 and shows the licensed modules we bought.

Again, when I go to File | Print, nothing happens.  No error, no window, nothing.

For those following the thread, the problem appeared to be with the network printer driver.

By adding a new printer in Windows | Control Panel | Devices and Printers, using the default search functionality, a new network printer driver was installed and all was then well.
