Sometimes, when I use the cable tool, it doesn't appear until the final double click at the end, which of course makes figuring out where it is, like figuring out where you are in the dark.  There must be some small switch that I need to tic, but I can't find it. 

This doesn't happen all the time, just occasionally and specifically to one document.

Any thoughts?

uh, duh I actually I just figured this out.  I had paper color set to the same color grey that the cable tool uses.
