We can import AutoCAD DXF & DWG files natively into all Stardraw applications.
Alternatively, we fully support OLE (Object Linking & Embedding). Choose Insert OLE Object from the Edit menu and browse to the file you wish to insert into your document.
Note that what you see will very much depend on the application you have installed on your machine that is associated with that file extension.
The biggest issue you will have is that of scale. You just need to import your files to the correct scale as all Stardraw symbols for truss & lights are in a scale of 1:1.
Any idea why all of the drawings lines don't come in? I am missing a lot of layers. I am guessing there might be a limit on layers--it is showing 16 or 17. (I believe there may be 60 layers on my Set Designer's drawing). What is the limit for the program?
I tried to attach the dxf file but it wouldn't let me send.
Thanks for your promptness. That was great.
Terry
There is no limit to the number of layers that you can import into Stardraw.
You could email your dxf file to techsupport @ stardraw.com and we will examine the file and try to reproduce the problem.
We have received your dxf file, thanks, and we have examined it to try and diagnose the problem.
There are 2 issues:
1. The text is being imported into Stardraw in White and because the default paper color in Stardraw is White, you are seeing White on White (ie, nothing). You can either change the paper color in Stardraw by selecting the Brush color (the far left hand color on the toolbar) to Gray and then selecting Options->Preferences->Paper Color. Or, you can change all the text in your document to another color by selecting the whole document (Ctrl + A) and then choosing the Font Color from the Toolbar (the far right hand color on the toolbar).
2. The second problem is a little trickier. We believe that all the walls and truss have been drawn as Splines. Stardraw is a Bezier Engine and there is no simple conversion between the two mathematical curve types. I suggest that you explode the AutoCAD file in your original application to break the Splines down to simpler entities.
