The simple answer is yes - because of Stardraw A/V's flexible architecture you have complete control over the attributes used to define your cables and the way in which these attributes are reported.

In this specific example you could either use existing default attributes e.g. CS_From & CS_To, or define your own attributes.  You could then modify an exsting report template, or create your own, to arrange these attribute values in any way you see fit.

Load up the attached drawing in Stardraw A/V and run the Cable + Connection Schedule report - this will show how cable attributes can be output.  In the report you will notice that columns E and G use Excel's Concatenate function to incorporate multiple attribute values in a single cell.  By editing the function you could include line breaks (include "char(10)" without apostrophes - note that the cell must allow text wrap; select Format | Cells, go to the alignment tab and check Wrap Text). So, for example, you could insert a cell into the report that gives Cable Number, From and To on separate lines using the following function:
     =CONCATENATE(A3, CHAR(10),D3,CHAR(10),G3)

For the label at the other end you would simply insert another column and reverse From and To thus:
     =CONCATENATE(A3, CHAR(10),G3,CHAR(10),D3)

I worked in the installation division of a TV station. All cables had a number, but more importantly a 2 line name. The top line was "where you are" and the next line was "where the cable was going to". This arrangement was regarded as absolutely vital - because if a cable was disconnected, you needed to know where it should be connected - WITHOUT the necessity of having to find a drawing and then finding the number, and the obvious delay that would ensue. And all that whilst the TV station is off the air...

So, this of course also means that the labels at each end of the cable are different. Can Stardraw sort this one and bring cable and connection clarity?

Labelling function very useful...Future enhancements should include...cable lable text size, font, location (above/below line etc.)  At the moment, only able to change the default cable label text size by unlocking the document, selecting the appropriate text, then select a new font/size then ENTER.  If increasing the size of text, the text may also need moving, so it does not overlap the line!  I am sure that the cable lable function will be enhanced in the usual stardraw way!

Cheers

Phil

No, this is not currently possible within the Stardraw interface - each displayed attribute on the Cable/Dogleg must be defined seperately.

However, we hope to introduce a new user interface shortly that will allow for all kinds of flexibility with regard to attributes, cables and doglegs.  When implemented it will include the functionality you seek, and much more besides.

That fixes half the problem, is there anyway the block drawing can do the same? ie show C1 at both ends of the line?

OK, that's kind of what I was hoping.  If you're just interested in the report you can edit the report template within Excel so that the End Label takes its value from the Start Label field. For example:

1) Open Excel
2) Open C:\Program Files\Stardraw AV\Templates\Cable Schedule.XLT
3) Select cell H3, type "=", select cell G3 and hit Return.  You'll notice that the formula in cell H3 reads "=Detail_CS_Start_Label"
4) Save and close the file.
5) Next time you run the Cable Schedule Report from Stardraw A/V, the End Label cells will take their values from the corresponding Start Labels

I hope this is helpful, but let me know if I've missed the point.

I label each end of a cable with the same code. C## for control, V## for video etc. Then i run one of you reports to give a cable schedule. At the moment i have to do it the long way (or by using the edit attributes) but geting the same label on both ends is far to much like hard work!! Just wondered if there was a quick way.

This isn't currently possible within the Stardraw interface.

What's the problem you're trying to solve?  If you can describe the problem we may be able to come up with a solution to fit.

Also, check out the Edit Attributes tool - this allows you to set auto-incrementing, sequentially numbered labels using the CS_Start_Label and CS_End_Label attributes - see: http://www.stardraw.com/products/stardrawav/NewFeature.asp?date=0203
