Hi there,
I’m encountering some issues with the Rack layout when I have multiple devices share the same rack unit. When there are more than one device on the same rack unit, the side view displays them in a linear fashion, with one device in front of the other, even though the other device is actually behind.
It appears that the device may require a Z axis coordinate in addition to the existing X and Y coordinates.
Is there a way to overcome this issue, or is it a limitation of the software?

Thanks

Hi Debbio,

Thanks for your post. Stardraw Design 7.3 is a 2D graphical environment so, as you say, there is no Z-axis and Side View is actually a variant of Front View with different layers being visible.  This means that so objects side-by-side in Front View will appear in front of / behind each other in Side View.

You can easily adjust the Side View, if this is an issue for you, by using the Unlock Cursor to move the side view outline of the right (rear-appearing) device so that it aligns with the left edge of the left (front-appearing) device.

It's important to use the Unlock Cursor because this will move only the selected objects in the symbol, rather than all the objects in the symbol, which would shift the front view objects to the left.

Important: remember to switch back to the Selection cursor (Escape) when you've finished working with the Unlock Cursor otherwise you may find that you change or move parts of symbols relative to the other parts of that symbol.

I hope this is helpful.

Kind regards,

Thanks, Rob! That worked. It made sense; I didn’t know that Unlock Cursors worked that way as well.

Thanks for clarifying that.

Yes, the Unlock Cursor ignores hierarchies which basically means it allows you to edit objects that are part of a symbol or group, without affecting the other objects in that hierarchy.

It's very powerful, but very dangerous - like dynamite - so use with care and always revert back to the Selection cursor at the earliest opportunity.
