LS,

I suddenly have some issues with copying and pasting. First I tought maybe my ctrlC or ctrlP buttons were broken but that was not the case. I have to wait for a while after pasting something before I can do a new copy paste action. I never experience this issue before. Any suggestion what might cause the sudden obligatory delay?

regards, Peter

Hi Peter,

We would need to know a lot more about what you're doing and seeing to understand what might be happening.

  • How does the 'delay' present itself?  A spinning cursor?
  • What are you copying/pasting?
  • Is it a memory-intensive operation, i.e. does it contain a lot of objects?
  • Is it non-native data i.e. it originated outside of Stardraw e.g. an image?
  • Is it a very large project? How many drawings? What is the size in memory?
  • Have you been working on this project for a long time without saving?
  • Do you see the same effect if you start a new project?
  • Do you see the same effect if you restart Stardraw Design 7.3?
  • Do you see the same effect if you restart your computer?

Kind regards,

Hi Rob, thanks for your swift reply. Please see my answers below:
How does the 'delay' present itself? A spinning cursor? no, nothing, just nothing happening
What are you copying/pasting? all kind of objects, pictorials, blocks, lines
Is it a memory-intensive operation, i.e. does it contain a lot of objects? no, it can be a single simple object
Is it non-native data i.e. it originated outside of Stardraw e.g. an image? all data
Is it a very large project? How many drawings? What is the size in memory? 200MB
Have you been working on this project for a long time without saving? no, I save regulary
Do you see the same effect if you start a new project? yes
Do you see the same effect if you restart Stardraw Design 7.3? yes
Do you see the same effect if you restart your computer? yes
If you like I can do a teamviewer session.
regards Peter

An update for those following the thread.

The issue was project-specific. Use of non-native data, including imported DWG files containing many thousands of objects and many very large images - sometimes 10s of MB - meant that copying and pasting would involve hundreds of thousands of objects and/or memory-intensive images, meaning the operation approached the limits of system resources.  This causes slower performance than would normally be the case with native Stardraw data: ask a computer to do a LOT of work and it naturally takes longer.

At no point did the system 'stop', it was simply necessary to wait for the operations to complete.

The effect is not seen after a system or application restart and starting a new project, or with a project that contains a reasonable and expected amount of data.

Kind regards,
Rob Robinson
