When I tried to update stardraw, by just opening it, it gave me this message you can see in attachment. If i click ok, it start automatically do update again, and so on in circle, every time I click OK it goes from start to update. I mean it tells me that i have updates available, I go ok, and after several seconds, it shows me this message again. I have latest windows updates and didn't do anything with stardraw files. Didn't move them or anything like that.

Hi Uros,

Close Stardraw Design 7 and then, using Windows Explorer, go to the Stardraw Design 7 installation folder under C:\Program Files.

Manually run "Stardraw Updater.exe" - this should update SD7 and remove the message, and you should not see it again.

I hope this is helpful.

Kind regards,

Dear Rob,

I did everything like You told me, and it worked fine, but now, same thing happened with new updates. Does this mean, i have to update it or run it every time from Program files/ Stradraw updater?

Why is this error happening? Is there something I can do to fix the problem, so it wont repeat?

Thank You..

Hi Uros,

Is it possible that you had more than one instance of Stardraw Design 7 running? If so, this could be the problem: multiple program instances will prevent the update from completing and this could cause a 'loop'.

Using Windows Task Manager, check to see that you do not have more than one instance of Stardraw Design 7.exe running in the Processes tab, and also check that and Stardraw Updater.exe is not already running.

Or, to be certain, reboot your computer and run SD7. I assume this will stop the update 'loop'.

Kind regards,
Rob Robinson

Sorry for not replying for some time. I know for sure that i didnt have multiple Stardraw Design 7 running, nor were multiple updates were in the same time running. But as soon as I did everything like you told me, run stardraw updater.exe from windows explorer error didnt appear. If this error happens again, i will notify you and tell you my exact steps what i did and what is running.

Hi Uros,

There is another possible explanation.

The update process works as follows:

  1. When you Accept Updates, SD7 calls Stardraw Updater.exe and closes
  2. Stardraw Updater.exe downloads any updated files, including a new version of Stardraw Updater.exe
  3. Stardraw Updater calls SD7 and closes
  4. SD7 overwrites the old version of Stardraw Updater with the new one
On a fast machine it is possible that SD7 is trying to overwrite Stardraw Updater.exe before it has fully closed - this would certainly throw the 'access denied' message.

If you ever see this the recommended fix is to close SD7 then restart it by choosing Run As Adminstrator (you can do this by rightclicking). By doing it this way we we can be sure that Stardraw Updater.exe is not running. It is necessary to run SD7 with Administrator privileges in this single case so that Windows will allow it to change files in protected locations, i.e. overwriting Stardraw Updater.exe in the installation folder under C:\Program Files.

I hope that this is helpful and fully clarifies exactly what is going on.

Kind regards,
Rob Robinson
