The ClearOne PSR1212 is missing a 232 connection; so I added one by editing the Symbol that was already dragged into my drawing. Now there is no Properties Sheet for that Symbol. Can I get it back or do I need to start over?

Hi Tim,

When you add elements to a symbol in a document, the collection is no longer a symbol: it is a symbol plus, for example, a line.  Or, if you have grouped the elements, what you think is a symbol is actually a Group that contains a symbol and a line.

The best way to edit symbols and maintain intended symbol functionality is to drag a symbol into your document, e.g. from Offline Libraries, then drag it from the document into My Libraries, which creates a new symbol file, then doubleclick on the symbol under My Libraries.  This allows you to edit the 'original' symbol file where you can do anything you want.  When you drag the edited symbol back into your document it is a true symbol and will behave as such.

To create a new Block Schematic symbol it is recommeded that you use the Symbol Wizard in the Tools menu.

I hope this is helpful.

Kind regards,

Thanks for the tip about editing Symbols Rob. Only pain is to re-wire the replaced Symbol!

So if there is an error in a Symbol or something needs updating, what's the best way to report it?

Regards

Tim

Hi Tim,

Agreed - you want to get the symbol right before using it, otherwise effort can be duplicated.

To report errors, please email symbols@stardraw.com with the manufacturer name, model number, and details of the error.

Kind regards,

Rob

I have dragged the online Symbol into My Symbols, done the edit and saved it. Then dragged from My Symbols into the drawing, OK so far. Then when I click on that Symbol in the drawing to move it within the drawing sheet, when I let go with the left-click Stardraw closed! Tried again, same problem.

I tried it in a new BS and it was OK. So, I used the recovered file and dragged from My Symbols into the drawing again and it seems OK this time.

Just thought I'd let you know.

Busy re-wiring now - lesson learned! Smile

Tim
