Hi All

I am experiencing a  major problem with the importing of CAD DXF files‌‌ which is very much impacting my ability to complete work.

I use the DXF files from the manufacturers to create the images for rack fronts for rack layouts, the rears for wiring diagrams for installers and the fronts again for pictorial schematics for customers.

My workflow is to import the dxf file by file/import to a new drawing withing the project then I edit out what I don't want them create a User Defined Product using the wizard.

My problem is that when I import it fails and a dialogue box with the message "No objects could be imported. Check That The Model View of the original DWG contains the data to be imported" appears on the screen.‌‌

I have checked the DXF files with  Autodesk DWG TrueView  file viewer  as I do not have CAD‌‌. I find there is no drawing in the model space but there are drawings in the sheets view as per normal. My CAD understanding is bad to rusty at best and my knowledge of using the viewer is minimal to the extend of opening a file to view and print. This workflow has worked flawlessly up till the last couple of weeks then odd failures crept in and then in the last couple of days nothing has been successful.

Can anybody offer an idea on how to fix the problem and make it work again?  Even if‌‌ maybe somebody can tell me how (if it is possible at all) to copy the drawing file into the model space in Autodesk DWG TrueView and see if that is the problem - Yes I understand that is technically off the topic of this board but please can someone help I have have work backing up.

Any‌‌ assistance guidance gratefully received.

Thanks  Lloyd :-)‌‌

Hi Lloyd,
‌Can you email us at techsupport at stardraw dot com, or post on this forum the DWG or DXF files you are trying to use to create your UDP files in Stardraw.
W‌e can then try and reproduce the problem you are experiencing and provide you with a solution.‌

+1.

H‌ave had very similar/same experience in the past.  Eventually gave up and moved on to 'manual' drawing....‌

Lloyd,

‌T‌hank you for sending your DXF files to us. Our team have analysed them and they do indeed have no objects in Model Space, as the error indicated. They do have objects in a Layout Page (Paper Space) and if you have the full version of AutoCAD, you can Right Click on a Layout Page tab and choose "Export Layout to Model". This file can then be successfully imported into Stardraw Design 7. Unfortunately, the AutoDesk TrueView does not support this feature.

‌‌‌I‌ note that your DXF file also came with a PDF file. Did you know that Stardraw Design 7.2 supports Importing of PDF files? Quite often, a manufacturer will be happy to provide PDF drawings of their products rather than AutoCAD DWG or DXF files. Simply choose "Import PDF as New Project" from the File menu in Stardraw Design 7.2

I hope this helps and explains the various methods of importing manufacturer drawings into Stardraw and please do not hesitate to post on this forum if you have any further questions or problems.‌
