Products grid not linked to drawings? How to update?

I seem to have somehow unlinked my products grid from my drawing.

I went to the products grid, changed some info (specifically product NAME).

I went to the drawing where that product was used, select the product, but the NAME attribute still has the old info.

Checked the product grid, it has the new name.

Tried Edit>Update Attribute Values -- same condition.

Tried save and reopen project -- same condition. Product grid shows one value for name, product symbol in drawing still shows old name.

Bug? or am I missing something?

Thanks,

zuk

Hi Zuk,

We are unable to reproduce this. I have:

  1. In a Drawing, selected a symbol and set the Name attribute to "Prod1"
  2. In Products Grid, Name = "Prod1"
  3. In Products Grid, change Name to "NewValue"
  4. In Drawing, Name in Properties Grid is now "NewValue"
Note that if you had the symbol selected when you went to the Products Grid, when you return to the drawing the Properties Grid may not have refreshed. Click somewhere else in the drawing, and then select the symbol again to update and display the new value. We will look into this 'refresh' issue.

One further thing, Edit | Update Attribute Values resynchronizes the project against the Product Attributes spreadsheet and this is its only function.

Thanks Rob, I'll see if I can reproduce it.

It was definitely not a case of just having the symbol selected, as one of the things I tried was to close and reopen the project.

You will undoubtedly notice that users will try ANYTHING they can in the hopes that it will work. This can lead to some very superstitious behavior. It's root cause though is not understanding how it functions, and of course some grasping at straws.

The whole way the Product Attributes spreadsheet works and the difference between it and attributes in settings is REALLY opaque, and completely non-discoverable. Given the complete lack of documentation for SD, (a handful of short videos and this forum are NOT documentation) the GUI needs to be EXTRA discoverable. The difference between type and use of attributes on the settings tab vs. the Product attributes tab should have a note written on the GUI or a pop up tool tip.

The GUI in general could use more tool tips. And AT A MINIMUM there should be a help file that explains every Menu choice, and ideally have examples or explanation of WHEN to use the feature. It is nice that we can chat with you and the other SD folks, IF you're on at the same time, but that should be supplemental not a necessity.

One last note about the Product Attributes tab,

"

Hi Zuk,

The typo has been fixed - thank for keeping us on our toes. Errare humanum est, etc.
