Layers Toolbar?

Hi guys,

Maybe I've missed something obvious, but here goes anyway ... Wink

It would be real nice to have a toolbar that allowed layers to be toggled on & off, similar to the action of the tools->view menu. Is there a way to do this?

cheers,

Tony

Hi Tony,

Yes, you can do this in the Document Properties dialog | Layers tab.  Doubleclick anywhere on the document to show the dialog (or rightclick and select Document) - in the Layers tab you can add, remove and edit layers, set the current layer and also select whether a layer is displayed, reportable, printable and locked.

I hope this is helpful

Hi Rob,

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I am aware of the doc. properties->layers tab. What I'm getting at here is an 'ease-of-use' thing. If the layer buttons in the tools->view submenu were available as a toolbar/palette, it would make it much quicker & easier to toggle those layers on and off, i.e. it would certainly save me a helluva lot of menu/dialog navigating as I use the standard layers extensively. In my case there would be no need to have custom layers available in a toolbar, since I rarely have need of them.

cheers,

Tony

Hi Tony,

I think that a toolbar would have a lot of the same problems, i.e. you'd have to move the mouse all the way to the toolbar, click, move, scroll, click and then move all the way back. This is almost exactly the same as what you have to do today.

A better solution would be to add the Tools | View sub-menu to the context-sensitive popup menu that is displayed when you rightclick.  Doing it this way you could rightclick and select View | [LayerName].  The advantage is that it would be one rightclick and one left click, and you would hardly have to move the mouse at all.

We'll add this functionality in due course, but let me know if you see any drawbacks.

Hi Rob,

I'm not sure I understand what you're saying here. What I envisage is a simple toolbar, containing only the layer buttons found in the tools->view menu. This would mean a simple mouse move to the toolbar, then the required number of clicks to hide or show the desired layers. No scrolling required.

cheers,

Tony

Hi Tony,

I'm pleased to tell you that we have published an update that includes pre-defined circuit path layers as customizable commands which means you can include them in a toolbar.

Select Options | Customize Toolbars and click on New if you want to create a new Toolbar.  Then go to the Commands tab, select the Tools category and drag the desired Layer icons into the toolbar of your choice.

You can install the new version at www.stardraw.com - follow a link to the application you use and then select LiveUpdate from the QuickLinks menu on the left.
