Hi Rob
Is this effect a bug or are we doing something wrong? - Front view: insert a symbol into a rack - Switch to side view and move the symbol to e.g. the right ("deeper" into the rack) - Switch back to front view -> the symbol has moved to the right, too (out of the rack)!
Maybe the problem has to do with SD handling the Z axis not as a separate axis but as a different layer..?
Cheers, Phil

Hi Phil,
I think the problem is just a slight misunderstanding in the way that things work. Stardraw Design 7.1 is not a 3D program: there is no 'Z' axis in that regard.
SD7.1 is a 2D program that gives the impression of different views by selectively showing and hiding layers. From an axial point of view there is no difference between the Front view and the Side view. A left/right movement in either view is a movement in the X axis.
Symbols behave like a single object: in effect a symbol is a group of objects across different layers. Therefore if you move the symbol in the X axis in one view it moves that symbol's component objects on other layers in the X axis too.
If you want to move just the Side view objects you can use the Unlock cursor which ignores grouping. In Side view, therefore, select the visible objects that make up the product and move it wherever you like (in X) - this will not affect the objects on other layers.
IMPORTANT: if using the Unlock cursor, remember that this can displace visible objects in your symbols away from invisible ones (on other layers) and can be highly destructive if not treated with care. Always, always remember to return to the regular cursor mode when you have finished working with the Unlock cursor.
I hope this is helpful.
